Live Vocal Performances

Currently I am singing as cantor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in downtown Atlanta, usually on the 3rd Sunday of each month. This beautiful French Romanesque church is over 100 years old, and was designed in 1897 by W. T. Downing, an architect from Atlanta. It was formally designated as a minor basilica by the Vatican on 22 February 2010, and it is the only basilica in Georgia. The Greek word for "royal hall" is the origin for the term "basilica," and Sacred Heart is indeed one of the most physically and accoustically beautiful venues for sacred music in the southeast. The organist is William E. Krape, someone with over 20 years experience performing and conducting music both in the church and in the broader Atlanta area. In the past I was a cantor at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in northern Atlanta. Dr. Albert Ahlstrom, who received his doctorate in musical arts from The Juilliard School, is the organist with whom I usually performed. The listing below includes some recordings of my past performances.

21 March 2010, 8:30 a.m. mass - "Be Thou With Me," by Johann Sebastian Bach. However, this is an English version by Katherine K. Davis with entirely different words than the original. The original version is a funerary song. The melody is so beautiful that it is often sung in various settings regardless of the words. However, this very different English version is very upbeat, and good for many settings.

17 August 2008, 8:30 a.m. mass - "Ave Maria." This is the Schubert version, sung in Latin.
