Great Political Leaders: Newpaper Article Assignments Below are articles and op-ed essays from The New York Times that are assigned for class. Students need to focus on the writing methods used in forceful critiques of political leaders. Studying this type of writing should help each student improve their own written analyses of the political leaders examined in this course. All students are responsible for all material. The (N) after the page number means "national edition." If you are looking these articles up at the library and using the New York edition, the page numbers may be different. (But not always. Just check.) Students may want to use LexisNexis to find the full text of these articles online. LexisNexis is free for Emory students. (See the reference librarian if you have not used LexisNexis before). The articles below are listed by date (the most recent first). "Bred for Power," by David Brooks, Saturday, 13 September 2003, p. A27(N) "Exploiting the Atrocity," by Paul Krugman, Friday, 12 September 2003, p. A27(N) "Other People's Sacrifice," by Paul Krugman, Tuesday, 9 September 2003, p. A31(N) "Presidential Character," Editorial, Tuesday, 9 September 2003, p. A30(N) "Fistfuls of Dollars," by Paul Krugman, Friday, 29 August 2003, p. A23(N)
