Developmental Democracy
Optional Paper Topic
Due the last day of class. Five pages total. This is a thinking essay. To obtain background information, you may refer to your text books, search the Internet, and go to the library, as needed. However, formal references are not required. Normal reference style applies. Double spaced, normal margins. This paper cannot be used for the writing requirement.
Write a five page paper analyzing the situation in Iraq with respect to the potential of setting up a stable democratic government there. Include in your discussion a review of the history of the conflict since the beginning of the U.S. invasion. What mistakes were made? How could the U.S. fix these mistakes at the current time, or is it too late? What are the prospects of the U.S. being able to leave Iraq as a stable democracy any time soon? Be clear, and justify your positions on these matters.
